We are in Uganda!! We arrived a week ago and the time has flown by. Since I only have a few moments of internet, I will give the highlights and post pictures and longer explanations soon.
Life is different than I expected, but in amazing ways. First, we had given our hopes and expectations to the Lord and were prepared to live in the most rural of situations. Yet God has blessed us! We live in a fenced in compund (house) with a garden, beds, a shower, a hot plate for cooking, and 1 toilet indoors with squatty potties outdoors (that really is what they call them… it is a hole in the ground in a little outhouse.) This is so much more than I had expected and I feel so overwhelmed with blessings! We live right next door to the other Ugandan team, so we get to see them often.
Other than that, I am doing well and adjusting to life in Africa. It is very different, but I love it. God is so needed here and I can see His hand moving in everything going on around me. We work with the orphans and at their school, are teaching English, working with a church here, and traveling to the bush churches every few weeks to share the gospel. We walk to the market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and bread, which is turning into a ministry within itself as we meet and talk to people there and on the walk home. We don’t eat much meat because it is so expensive and very difficult to find safe meat unless you kill the animal yourself. We had goat yesterday (yes goat… yikes!) and here’s the kicker… they killed it right in front of us. They were honoring us by giving us a goat and it truly is a huge blessing from them, so we attended the killing. I got to help clean it! When in Rome… or Uganda? 😉
We are asked to sing often at church and int he market during street evangelism, so we have pulled ourselves into a “choir.” A little rough at first, but I know we will get better! We are helping with a Ugandan pastor’s conference Thursday through Friday then heading to the bush church monday and tuesday. Pray for us!
Ok, I’m about to time out here at the cafe. Love you all and am praying for you! E-mail or comment, it makes me feel more at home to hear from everyone! Santi sana! (thank you!)
